To know more about Marcia, we asked her the questions below:
Tell us about your background, hometown, family, hobbies, passions?:
Marcia grew up on a self-sustaining farm in southeast Iowa where she learned to make do or make it yourself if she wanted something. While not appreciating that as a child, she now attributes that “if you want it, make it pattern” to her lifelong ability to find simple solutions to everyday problems for ordinary people.
Marcia adores her two grown married children and their five grandchildren who amaze her with their determination, drive, creativity, and fun personalities.
What do you love about Arizona?:
I love that Arizona is THE copper state. When we moved here, StayWell Copper was in the developing stage and we had no idea AZ was The Copper State. I am just now getting involved in the entrepreneur side of AZ business and am truly enjoying the new friends I’m making. It’s wonderful to give back and to share what I have learned from a lifetime of business. Plus we love the warm weather and the easy traffic as compared to traffic in Denver.
Tell us about your business. How long ago and how did you get started? What service(s) or product(s) do you offer?:
The Science Behind Copper
Long before the discovery of penicillin, copper was preventing infection and saving lives. That’s because it interferes with the cellular structure of microbes like everyday cold and flu viruses, hospital-induced MRSA and more. While being chemical-free and all-natural, StayWell™ copper kills 99.97% of germs on contact.
The Greeks and Egyptians both discovered that if the stored their water in copper vessels it didn’t get scummy. They then coated their cutting implements and swords with copper and found their wounds didn’t get infected. And for generations -many generations – copper has been used to kill germs. Until….
John D. Rockfeller became the US’s first billionaire in the late 1800’s (back when a billion was really a LOT of money). He invested in pharma and then used his money to buy legislators to pass laws prohibiting insurance companies from paying for any natural medical treatments. The laws would only allow insurance to pay for prescription drugs. So, now we have to reverse this very damaging mindset and again start using natural remedies to keep our bodies healthy. We started StayWell Copper 5 years ago. We now offer a growing line of 99.9% pure antimicrobial medical grade solid copper products which kill 99.97% of germs on contact.
Who’s your ideal client? What’s the biggest problem you solve for them?:
Our ideal client is everybody on the planet. Seriously! Germs are everywhere and third world countries have a very hard time fighting germs. Flight attendants, medical personnel, school teachers, those dealing with the elderly. Any of us who don’t want to suffer another cold; SWC is for you. My husband and I have not had a cold for 42 months. We have 200 folks in our focus study and they have been cold-free for 29 months!!! This is a simple science and it works! Plus it lasts forever – the copper you buy today will be killing germs long after you are gone. So be sure to pass it on to those you love in your Last Will 🙂
How do you market your business? How are people aware of your business?:
So far we are using social media and our website and sales from Amazon. In 2020, we will begin selling into brick and mortar retail. We do try constantly to get media coverage and have had some beginning success. We have our products in the final “white pages” sign off to be included in the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation to get products to third world countries.
Tell us some of the challenges and lessons you’ve learned since you started your business.:
We have learned that amazon can shut you off in a nano second and for no reason at all. Do not put all your eggs in amazon’s basket.
We have learned that our few competitors can be very vicious to get us to stop selling.
We have learned that the stainless steel industry does not want copper to be used and to lose their market share to our products.
Influencers are hard, very hard, to get.
To what do you attribute your success?:
Creative product design – products that really stand apart from anything on the market
Getting folks to write reviews on google, and spreading the word on social media
Never giving up even when it is really tough!
Whom do you seek advice from for your business? Whom do you like to follow in the business world? Why?:
Having been a lifelong entrepreneur, I have a pretty well-developed network of folks I can trust for advice. I trust my gut – it has served me really well over the decades. I am trying to follow more and more of the social media/eCommerce gurus as I have a lot to learn about the world of eCommerce and how to speak to and attract the new and younger generations to our products.
If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out, what would it be?:
Never quit learning. The world is a fascinating place and there is always so much more to learn. Self-education is priceless.
How do you achieve work-life balance?:
I’m not very good at this. I’m driven and I love what I do. I feel 23 inside and fortunately, my energy level is keeping up. I get up around 3 am and try to shut down around 3 pm so I can spend the afternoon and evening with my husband. He is retired and loves to sleep until around 11 so that works great for me.
Favorite quotes or book recommendations:
So very many here. Far too many to list. I read at least 1-2 new books a month. I also listen to a lot of recorded books so I can learn while I walk and get some exercise.
Anything else you would like to add?:
I LOVE my life and I am blessed. I am so happy to help anyone who feels I have something to offer them. I almost died from an MRSA staph infection and now I know I was spared so I could bring them product line to market. There’s always a reason behind everything and Karma is sweet!!
