We first met these two dynamic co-founders, Amber Lopez and Brandi Boers of Elevate Yoga & Wellness, at a Local First Arizona event at PAZ Cantina restaurant. Amber and Brandi embody the spirit of community and that’s what they have set out to build around their Yoda studio. We are blessed to have them as part of the Avontage community.
Amber and Brandi are two Phoenix locals that have dedicated their efforts to creating a community that welcomes all walks of lives to be a part of something, to feel accepted and comfortable in their own skin, and able to express themselves, and to elevate their asana with a unique and artful form of yoga without fear of judgment.
To learn more about Amber and Brandi, we asked them the following questions:
Tell us about your background, hometown, family, hobbies, passions?
Both Brandi and Amber were raised in the Midwest and have small-town values. They now call the downtown Phoenix area home. The culture of the small town feel, but diverse, creative, big city life has resonated with them and where they not only live, do business but hang out as well. When they’re not teaching yoga, they can be found exploring this amazing state, at a wine tasting or relaxing poolside.
What do you love about Arizona?
Arizona is a beautiful state! Where else can you enjoy such beautiful winters, but also be just a short car ride away from the mountains, trees, snow, the beach, Vegas, and so much more!?
Tell us about your business. How long ago and how did you get started? What service(s) or product(s) do you offer?
We started teaching aerial yoga as a hobby (a way to work out and have fun outside of our stressful 9-5 office jobs) about 4 years ago and when that studio closed we knew we had to find a way to keep this amazing practice going for our community. We relocated and popped up offering a couple of donation based classes per week at The MonOrchid and within 9 months we had outgrown the space and realized we could make this passion our full time jobs (not really a job when you LOVE what you do). Fast forward and we now operate a full time aerial yoga boutique studio / community in the heart of Roosevelt Row in Downtown Phoenix. We offer over 30 different classes each week and accommodate all skill levels and body types (yogis and non-yogis alike). Whether students are looking for relaxation through one of our guided meditation classes or are looking for something to increase the heart rate with our signature elevated classes, we offer something for everyBODY.
Who’s your ideal client? What’s the biggest problem you solve for them?
Ideal client = anyBODY
We don’t necessarily look to solve problems, but rather we have created a safe, inclusive space and community where one is able to explore movement, breath work and meditation in a creative (and mindful) way free from judgement and where each person supports one another to achieve their individual goals (whatever those are).
How do you market your business? How are people aware of your business?
We are on social media and partner with a variety of other local businesses and organizations (in an effort to support local), and of course word of mouth.
Tell us some of the challenges and lessons you’ve learned since you started your business.
Going from a part-time pop up studio to having a full-time brick and mortar location was the biggest challenge to date. The strategies you deploy in one is much different than the other.
To what do you attribute your success?
Staying true to who we are, and truly putting our efforts into creating a safe, welcoming space for everybody that has a sense of commUNITY.
Whom do you seek advice from for your business? Whom do you like to follow in the business world? Why?
We are a part of a group of other boutique studio owners from around the world that are dedicated to working together to help one another succeed. We have been blessed to be surrounded with other like-minded studio owners that are interested in collaboration to help each other be successful rather than competing against own another.
If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out, what would it be?
Remain consistent. Other than determination, consistency is key! When you put your mind to it, it can be done, but steering the bus straight will make things successful long term.
How do you achieve work-life balance?
Unplugging in the moments that matter, taking at least one day a week for self-care, and not forgetting to be a student first!
